SizeCon Online is hosted on gather.town. What can you do there?

SizeCon Online takes place in Gather, an interactive virtual event platform that recreates the feel of attending a convention in person.

You'll create a small avatar and explore our custom-built convention center, where you can visit vendor booths, attend panels, meet other attendees, and participate in events throughout the weekend.

As you move through the space, conversations happen naturally—when you approach other attendees, voice and video connect automatically in public areas, making it easy to chat just like you would at a live convention.

While Gather has a number of pages that that describe this (see here), let’s break down some of the features/options that will lead you to success!

Before the Event

Getting started is easy:

Purchase your ticket.
Complete age verification.
Watch for your event email.
Create your Gather account and avatar.
Join us on opening day.

Design your avatar

Your position in our Space will be represented by a virtual avatar that you can customize based on Gather’s offerings. Select costume pieces and coloration to put something unique to you forward.

Explore the space

The SizeCon Space features a spacious virtual convention center that can be explored! Using WASD or your Arrow keys on your keyboard, you can move in all directions (alternately, you can double-click your mouse to move to a location). Your avatar can dance by pressing Z, throw confetti by pressing F, interact with objects by pressing X, and end interactions by pressing ESC. Our convention can have a lot of attendees in close spaces, so you can press G to enter ghost mode, allowing you to travel through other attendees. See a more complete list of commands here!

INTERACT

SizeCon is a built space for connecting with others at its core. As you explore our space and encounter others, you’ll be able to communicate with them and talk about things! Every user within 5 spaces of you in public spaces will be able to converse with you, connecting to their video and microphone to allow you and anyone else in range to speak.In our Grand Stage, Panel, and Social rooms, don’t worry about getting close - Presenters can be heard by the entire room!

There are also private spaces, which automatically connect other users, and allow them to chat directly to each other without concern of being overheard.

GUIDELINES/TROUBLESHOOTING

Having issues with the space? Here’s some suggestions!

Gather.Town works best in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers. Using these will get you the most compatibility.
While text chat is possible, you get the most out of SizeCon with camera and microphone. Make sure these are working ahead of time!
Are you stuck in a group? Hold down G while moving to pass through them. Stuck in an object? Respawn!
Gather shows a variety of settings that can help your experience. Here’s a guide to them!
